Ongoing Professional Development
Introduction
We understand that physiotherapy is an ongoing learning process, where picking up new skills and challenging yourself is critical in making you the best therapist you can be.
At the WA Physio Group, we take enormous pride in the care we give to our patients, and to ensure that we can continually do that we have a very comprehensive continuing education program in place for all of our clinicians.
These follow several streams, below.
Ongoing Professional Development
1. Monthly in-house education
Monthly in-house education session from either an external presenter or one of our therapists with a special area of interest in the topic.
Recently, we have had presentations from orthopaedic surgeons, specialist musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapists, hand and upper limb OT’s, clinical psychologists. These are booked from 12 till 2pm on the fourth Thursday of every month.
2. Monthly Presentations
As part of the Active Physiotherapy Group, we meet once a month at Regenerate Physiotherapy in Churchlands for a two-hour session.
These are typically run by external presenters, such as Sports Physicians, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and other experts in their area. These are booked from 7:30- 9:30 pm on the second Tuesday of the month.
3. A targeted education program
For recently graduated physios, we also offer a targeted education program specific to your needs. For more information click here.
4. Private Practice Apprenticeship Opportunities
Personally, I also run a two-day seminar called the Private Practice Apprenticeship, which is designed for physiotherapists newly entering private practice, or someone who has possibly come across from a clinic where they have felt poorly supported.
For more information click here.
5. Ample opportunities to discuss clinical cases with your colleagues
Additionally, and this is critically important for all physiotherapists, there is ample opportunity to discuss clinical cases with your colleagues. This may be a fabulous success story, a challenging patient that you need assistance with, or even a robust discussion of different treatment philosophies. We are privileged to have an outstanding group of senior physiotherapists who are very happy to share their knowledge.
This includes Sports, Women’s Health and Musculoskeletal Masters Graduates, PhD candidate, and current Musculoskeletal Masters Student.
This may include an informal discussion in the lunchroom, a more formal case review, or the opportunity to have a colleague to review your patient and provide recommendations or even, watch you with your patient and provide feedback on the consultation.
These are all amazing learning experiences, and we have been quick to recognise that your development as a clinician (and satisfaction in the job) goes hand-in-hand with accessing these opportunities.
If this sounds interesting to you, we would love to have a chat. Feel free to contact me on 9274 1482.
